Hi,

Thanks for the e mail. It was nice to get a response like yours because I
really didn't expect it after the ones I read last night on the subject of
the Sunland Ride. I agree that only the rider knows the facts and he/she has
to live with the consequences and him/herself. I wish people weren't so
quick to give such a "gut" response but I suppose with situations that are so
emotionally charged as this one it can be expected.

Kim

Kim,
You have to go through it to understand it. The same people with
the gut reactions would probably change their minds if they had
to put up with the aftermath. Anyway, I now have the attitude of
not judging anyone, but rather, putting myself in their shoes and
asking myself if I had been there, what would I have done. You do this
sport long enough, odds are you will have a problem. Then, if things
turn out badly, you have the additional question to deal with which is
why continue in the sport if the result is the possibility of losing
your best friend? Not an easy question. Maggy Price was very instrumental in
getting me back into riding as a couple of days after losing my horse, I
trailered Becky and Rio to the ROC. Maggie met me, and asked me if I would
go out and condition with her and ride Nuke. It was really hard to get back
on a horse, but I think if I hadn't then there would have been a lot of excuses
not to, and I may never have continued. Maggie was absolutely right, and I will
always be greatful for her insight.

best regards,

Dom
