On a 50, there are generally 3 vet checks. At 12-15 miles, at 25 miles,
and at 35-40 miles. The first and last checks are gates into holds
with the holds 15 to 30 minutes. The middle check is usually a 1 hour
hold after citeria is met. In some cases, you might have a trot by.
I've seen those where the trail was particularly difficult.

These times and distances, of course, are "averages". It really depends
on the heat and terrain, and where a vet check *can* be held.
