There is a fellow in the SF Bay Area that used to ride endurance, that
popped an abdominal hernia sometime between the start of a ride and the
lunch vet check. The vets tried to pull him, but he got his hands on
several rolls of vet-wrap and fashioned a girdle to keep his guts in
his tummy where they belonged, mounted up and finished the ride. He used
BUTE to ease the pain. I doubt that the vets knew THAT.

Initially, we all wished that the vets had been more insistant that he be
pulled for the sake of his health, but after hearing the story re-told
for the umpteenth time, we wished for the pull for our own sakes! It was a
good story, but... :*)

Some folks have more competitive spirit than they do common sence.
