g'day all,

can i ask how many "holds" and what sort of lengths you would expect in a
50mile ride? here in australia we generally just have one half-way vet
check, with half an hour to get ready before the check and half an hour
break after. with your gate-into-hold system you have more checks than
this, right? so how long would they add up to, over a 50mile ride, on
average?

i ask because the general rule-of-thumb for maximum ride time in the
rides i have been to (which admittedly were in pretty flat country) is
10km/hr plus 1hour. so a 50mile ride, which is 80km, would have a max time
of 9 hours. if you add the break that's 9 1/2 hours, add the whole
vet-stop it's 10 hours. certainly not 12 hours. so is the difference in
the time you spend in checks or "holds" or are we actually expected to
ride faster than you do?

i find it really interesting to see how other countries run this sport,
and if anyone from other places wants to tell us their times too, please do.
