I agree that I am more concerned about the horse. A friend of mine was riding
up in the hills above Woodside. Her horse started colicing on the trail. She
called the vet, who met her back at her house. She also called home, and the
trailer was hooked up and waiting when she got back. The vet indicated that the
phone call helped put the odds in the horse favor, as time was of the essence.
The horse was transported to surgery, and survived.
My friend had been carrying a phone for several years without ever using it. We
used to kid her about her paranoia - but it turned out to be great insurance.
