[endurance] getting in shape

As a late bloomer ( began endurance last year at age 40 ), I can tell you
that it took more effort to get me in shape than my horse. I have managed to
get from heavyweight to middleweight in a year, and began working out at the
gym as often as I can. During the summer it was almost every day, lots of
light and time, and I was working nights. Well as of 9/24 I switched to
days, the time changed and to get to the gym I have to leave the house by 5.
This new schedule is going to take a while to get used to, but I am managing
2-3 times a week again.
My gym workouts are nothing fancy. 15-20 minutes on the recumbant bike
then 15-20 minutes in the pool swimming ( not walking ) steady. I can now
get on and off at vet checks, trot my own horse at the vet checks, and my
shoulders don't ache at the end of the ride. I should mention that last year
after our first ride, driving home was not on my list of priorities, but
finding the nearest hot tub was. Sorry to say, I don't own one, but the
shower felt good, and the bed better, and I couldn' walk right for two days.
Now I have no problem,. and usually RIDE the next day!
Good luck!
