Her thin coat might be due to the fact that you blanket her. Since you do that
anyway you might as well clip her. That way she will be easier to keep clean
and will dry off quicker. Get a good blanket though, especially if she's
already shivering.

I use a vacuum on my two young ones. They were dubious about it to start with
but accept it, even around the ears now. They don't seem to mind the cord
drapping over them now and then either.

Seems that a large part of the secret to keeping manes and tails tangle free is
to keep the static electricity down. Mane and tail does a good job of this so
does show shine or similar products (I don't use this the neighbour does with
good results).

By the way mud is a good insulator, that's probably why she likes to roll in
it.
