I need some information. I use a bosal on my six-year-old on the trail
and an eggbutt snaffle in the arena. On my twelve-year-old I use a
kimberwicke on the trail and a d-ring snaffle in the arena. I use the
kimberwicke on the trail because sometime I need more stopping power.
We are taking dressage lessons and working in the arena this winter in the
hopes of getting away from the more severe bit on the 12-year-old.
I have always believed
that good horsemanship should prevail over more severe bits.

Also a man I work with told me that the higher the level of competition the more
severe the bit, ie. spade bits with big rollers in the port for
cutting and reining horses. I have never seen this and as I said bleieve,
horsemanship eliminates the need for that kind of equipment.

thoughts on this subject will be appreciated.
