[endurance] Cherry Leaves

I know this isn't specifically endurance related, but I
thought of no better place to get some educated answers
than this group. This same question would probably
get flames in rec.equestrian!

About 25 feet south of one side of our pasture fence is
an old fencerow that has a number of wild cherry trees
growing. This normally causes no problem as our prevailing
winds are from the west and no leaf litter ends up with
the horses.

However, a few weeks ago, we had a storm that was the remains
of one of the many hurricanes Florida has had this year. We
had 50 mph winds, and needless to say, they were from the
south. Consequently, a lot of leaves were blown into the
pasture. I put up some temporary fencing to keep the horses
away from the leaves.

How long before it is safe? I have read that the only time
cherry leaves are deadly is in "wilt stage", but I am very
cautious. The leaves are very brown, and depending on the
weather, dry, or pliable....it has been about 3 weeks since
they dropped.

Thanks for any advice.
