Hi out in Oregon, I live in Ny state and here a some tips that they use at
the race track where i run a cafeteria. THey wash their horses every day,
they use hot water then they scrape all the water they can off, I like to use
those new double bladed bathroom sgueeges ( they work great!) it's really
good to scrape off goopy mud on th legs and hoofs you can use it every where
not just on the upper body. then they blanket the horse and walk them till
they dry off. let me check with my friend the trainer and see if there are
any other tricks they use. as for your mane the other thing they use is show
sheen by absorbine, my friend used it on her schnauzer and boy does that work
well. from the "original Book Of Horse Treats" there is this recipie :
DeAnn's Mane & Tail Detangler.

Ingredients:

Dry Calgon Bath oil beads
Water

Directions:

mix the calgon with water( one part calgon to 3 parts water) in a spray
bottle. Sprayon mane and tail to help recondition. Also works well on
knots: applyliberally and work out knot with a comb or stiff brush.

the show sheen helps to keep manes and tails from tangling I don't know about
the calgon mix.

Hope this helps and it has got to be better than WD 40 Yuck !

Good luck and Happy Trails
