I have the same sort of thoughts this time of year. As a matter of interest,
I belong to SERA (Southeast Endurance Riders Association) and GERA (Georgia
Endurance Riders Association) in addition to AERC. The dues for those 3
organizations total $130 a year! Then add the cost of subscriptions to Trail
Blazer and Equus to that and we are pushing $200 and still haven't started
with 'real' riding costs, just things that make it better. I want to support
our sport as well as enjoy it. BUT, that is as much as two trips by my
farrier, the cost of doing a ride, a lot of horse feed, tires for the horse
trailer, a new heart monitor, or any number of other comparisons that could be
made. I also have other activities that I or my kids enjoy. Something has to
give. So, we will weigh priorities and see what drops...
