You are invited to the Big South Fork for its first ever endurance ride!  The 
Big South Fork National River and Recreation Area is a 120,000 acre park which 
straddles the Tennessee-Kentucky line 80 miles northwest of Knoxville.  The 
defining feature of the area is the Big South Fork of the Cumberland River.  
The land is woodland plateau that has been sculpted into rugged rocky bluffs 
and deep gorges.  The sandstone has been carved into fascinating formations of 
cliffs, caves, arches and pillars.  The park is fas becoming a popular place 
to camp, ride, hike, mountain bike, raft and canoe.   
 
The National Park Service maintains 130 miles of trails for horseback riding 
with more trails and horse camp planned for the future.  The Daniel Boone 
National Forest adjoins the park in Kentucky, making quite an extensive area 
to ride.  We will be using nearly 50 miles of trail, which is only a small 
part of the total available. 
 
Along the trail, you will enter the 500 foot deep river gorge, pass by the 
Charit Creek Hostel (accessible only by foot or horse), and travel the old O&W 
Railroad bed along the beautiful North White Oak Creek.  Temperatures in 
October average 42 to 70 degrees.  Come enjoy the beautiful trails and fall 
foliage.
