You are invited to the Big South Fork for its first ever endurance ride! The
Big South Fork National River and Recreation Area is a 120,000 acre park which
straddles the Tennessee-Kentucky line 80 miles northwest of Knoxville. The
defining feature of the area is the Big South Fork of the Cumberland River.
The land is woodland plateau that has been sculpted into rugged rocky bluffs
and deep gorges. The sandstone has been carved into fascinating formations of
cliffs, caves, arches and pillars. The park is fas becoming a popular place
to camp, ride, hike, mountain bike, raft and canoe.

The National Park Service maintains 130 miles of trails for horseback riding
with more trails and horse camp planned for the future. The Daniel Boone
National Forest adjoins the park in Kentucky, making quite an extensive area
to ride. We will be using nearly 50 miles of trail, which is only a small
part of the total available.

Along the trail, you will enter the 500 foot deep river gorge, pass by the
Charit Creek Hostel (accessible only by foot or horse), and travel the old O&W
Railroad bed along the beautiful North White Oak Creek. Temperatures in
October average 42 to 70 degrees. Come enjoy the beautiful trails and fall
foliage.

Date: October 21 (vet-in on October 20)
