Remember that night blindness and moon blindness are two different
things...

My app mare is night blind, i.e., she can't see in the darkness. It was
easy to tell this, I discovered it when she was 2 years old. I first noticed
when I was leading her in the dark and she walked into the gate before
I had a chance to open it.

She is now almost 18 and it has never affected her site during the day.
At night I always have her with another horse. I have ridden her in the
dark, but only at a walk and always closely following another horse.
