Most of the time I am content to let the horse work up a sweat first. It is
much harder to get the electrodes to make good contact during midwinter with
long shaggy hair on the horse, though, and the KY jelly makes it reliable
without clipping.... Also, I use my HRM during competitions and want
everything working properly at the start. After all, if something can break
it will, if something can go wrong it will, etc, etc. I have seen some others
come into a vet check and say that the HRM did not work because a wire came
loose or even that its batteries died....
