You certainly have my sympathy on this subject! I've been fighting the same
battle now for a week. Almost the same circumstances too. A light drive in the
cart on Sat. 5-6 miles, then on Sun a 15 mile hilly workout under saddle. On
Sun. Horse was not too enthusiastic but it was hot and not his favorite trail (
he hates hills ). I have to admit he needed a trim and new shoes and we did do
some steep downhill walking but nothing very different that what we would
usually do. He was fine until Wed. when I went to put shoes on him and we have
fat hind fetlocks ( not just windpuffs either). Some heat, some stiffness which
is gone now after alternating ice, Uptite poultice and wraps. He's sound and
moving well but I'm concerned about it because I have a 30 mile CTR this weekend
and September is full of rides. I hope it was just his outdated shoeing that
caused the problem but I'll probably know better after this weekend.

Still cleaning the uptite clay out of my watch and fingernails,
LoisC
