Bikes and horses

One of my favorite place to ride, Boggs State Forest,is enjoyed by hikers,
bikers and, of course, horseback riders. I've found 99% of those riding Mt.
bikes to be very considerate of us on horseback. They usually stop, and move
off the trail, if it's at all possible. They call out to those behind them
and let us know, if there are more bikes. My horse does fine with the bikes,
as long as she sees them. If they "sneak up on her", she spooks! I really
like the fact that we can "share" the trails. As for hikers, especially the
ones with the big backpacks...we call them "aliens" as the horses are usually
quite leary of them. They're getting better, the more they seem them! I
think the main thing is that we are all considerate of each other and
consider the safety issues when passing.

The one bad experience I had, was a group of Boy Scouts, coming down a trail
just as fast as they could maneuver their bikes!! One of them went flying
past me, about 2 feet away from my horse. My horse spooked, of course, and
jumped sideways into my daughters horse, who does NOT spook, fortunately! I
was so thankful that my horse did not kick! I'm sure the boys didn't think
about what COULD have happened...
