What kind of engine is in it? How well was it taken care of? Is there a
heavy duty radiator? How about a transmission cooler? IF it has a 5.8 liter
engine or bigger, I would say go for it if everything else checks out. Oh,
get the torque converter checked too. Especially if you are on mountains. I
am in the mountains in VA, and when I found the current truck I have, the
first thing I did was to run it up the biggest mountain I knew of to see how
it did. It passed with flying colors. It is an F150, so it is equivalent to
what you have, just a Ford instead of Chevy, and has a 5.8 L engine with
fuel injection, power steering, cruise control, AC, and wires for
trailering. I was told to only use it for 5000 lb towing capacity (a 2
horse) because the gross weight on it is only about 5000 lbs. I have to put
a transmission cooler on it first, and get a towing package, though. ANyway,
if it sounds like the equivalent of this truck, I would say go for it. we
got this truck with 41K on it (it is a 1990) for $11,500, so if the one you
are looking at doeasn't pass, go check out the dealers. This thing also had
a Duraliner and a camper top, which makes for excellent camping out as well.
We slept in it at the Old Dominion Ride, and a couple of blankets in the
back made it downright comfy!
OH yeah-the MOST important part... it was 4 wheel drive, low and high! A
must for endurance I think....
Good luck!
