question, and I am happy!

Sorry, I had to tell ...
My stallion is going to be leased for endurance campaigning with Mary Anne
Wates, Jeannie Waldron's manager. I AM SOOO EXCITED, I could BUST!

Anyway, she rode him the other day, and of course he pulled every trick in
the book on her. He was having tack problems, but by the end of the ride he
had decided she knew what she was doing and settled down, expecially when
she sponged him off. He decided she wasn't so bad after all, much nicer
than Mommy. I always wait to get home to hose him off, because this was only
6-8 miles. He was never "bad" but he thinks he is SOMETHING, because he kept
shaking his head, and prancing, trying to show her what a "bad" boy he was.
No bucking though. Too old for that.

Anyway, if you see a Bask type stallion, bay/4 white socks at some rides
this fall, he is mine! HOpefully he will be a gentleman, has in the past! In
other words, if he is misbehaving, I won't claim I know him!
I am hoping we can take him to Fort Valley, plenty of time to get legged up
for that.

On another note, have any of you had experiences with a VERY sensitive girth
area on a stallion? I mean if it is too tight (which would be normal for
other horses) for him, and it chafes, makes a welt? He only acts up when he
feels it rubbing him the wrong way, and we have tried everything from
Cottage Craft cotton girths to leather to felt to fleece. He will only
accept fleece or felt at the moment, and only if isn't girthed quite snug
enough to go up a mountain..ie the saddle slides, but not on the flat.

I am using a Sportsaddle on him, and he likes that ALOT. I am thinking that
a breast plate and a crupper are the only solution to keep the girth loose
enough to suit him short of riding bareback, which is of course NOT an
option for endurance. I just don't like the thought of all that equipment.
When the girth is loose, he goes along like an old school horse, if it it is
rubbing/too tight, he nips your feet, trying his best to tell you that it
hurts.

All opinions, as usual, welcome.
Gwen
