You might want to try taking your horse on training rides with several
other horses. When your horse wants to speed up or lead, circle him to
the rear of the pack. Repeat this each time he does not listen to your
speed signals. If there is no room to circle, force the animal to do some
form of work more difficult or uncomfortable than going ahead. For
example, sidepassing or riding an "s" pattern down the trail. Eventually
he will realize that it is easier to listen to you than charge forward
and repeatedly have to work harder, charge forward again and work harder
again.
