Re: [RC] Snacks at vet checks - stephanie teeter

A can of Ensure, or Slimfast (strawberry cream) or some other time of meal drink will do wonders when it's hard to eat solid foods! A yoghurt drink can be refreshing and energizing too.

I, for one, have a really hard time making myself eat during a ride. No matter the weather, the idea of fighting my way through a sandwich... ugh. So I just tough it out, drink my electrolytes and try to force down a handful of trail mix (or steal a carrot) when I can. Only learned to force myself to eat this past summer when I came in almost too lightheaded and nauseated to trot my horse out on a particularly hot day.

This year I'm thinking of trying drinkable soup to get a little more substance without the need to chew. Tomato soup is just as good hot or cold, so that's my No. 1 candidate. I also like the idea of fresh fruit on hot days—it's relatively inexpensive and not as subject to picky eaters as sandwiches can be. :)

Just my $0.02,
