Re: [RC] Thrush prevention? - Opal PerryI have only ever had one very mild case, and it was when my horse was living in mud pretty much non stop for 2 months (long long story). And then he only got it in one hind foot. Normally he has 24/7 turnout with a run-in shelter. He CAN get out of the mud now if he chooses by either going in the barn or walk about 20 feet away, but of course he does neither of those things and stands in the goo.. figures. The "winter lot" is approx 3/4 of an acre, so lots of room to move around in. When necessary I do stall him, and then he is on shavings, no mats (yet). I never pick out feet, but he is barefoot so no issues with rocks sticking under shoes etc. My farrier picks his feet when he trims him, that's pretty much it. If I really need his feet clean I trot him on some concrete LOL. I do have a new horse but he hasn't even been home a week, so no history on him yet.Opal Perry =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-= Ridecamp is a service of Endurance Net, http://www.endurance.net.
