Like Kat, we have never had any issues with thrush here at our ranch with
our horses or with horses which might come in with thrush, get an initial or 2-3
treatments (using Usnea or a homemade combo of antibiotic/cortisone
cream/Lotrimin) and then go on to live out on the pasture with cleaning only
every 3-4 months.
Our horses live outdoors 24 x 7 on rocky, muddy (with rains and snow) hills
and in rocky, muddy valleys. They have 240 acres to roam though do little
of that in the winter when we feed hay.
Our horses, all 47 that are here right now, are barefoot at all
times.
We clean hooves when we ride, but seldom have time to ride, and we clean
hooves when we apply our routine hoofcare which is the natural barefoot
trim.
