[RC] My Renegade experience - Alexa Olney

My mother and I have been using Renegades for 7 months on two of our horses. I
am a farriers daughter and I will admit I didn't really pay much attention when
our shoes were applied. I knew what I was looking at but still the shoes were
on no worries right? Then my dad broke his ankle so it was my turn to step up
to the plate. We were very hesitant to start going shoeless for a few
different reasons I won't get into that it doesn't matter now.
There is a learning period to use the Renegades as with anything new. It
doesn't take long. I love my Renegades they are so easy. I think it only
takes me 5 minutes to put on a set of 4. Your horse has to get used to the
routine of standing to have them put on, this is a big time saver. I would
definetly use them around the house first. They do seem to change a little
with use. The other thing I noticed is going from steel shoes to barefoot our
horses feet changed over time. So we had to adjust the boots differently. My
mothers horse ended up wearing a size smaller in the front after a few months.
I think conservative trims often are a must because I can tell now when I
put the boots on if it's time for a trim and I trim every two weeks. My
biggest advise from this experience is get to know your horses feet. Just
picking their feet up and putting a boot on is not enough. Get to know each
foots wear pattern and weak spots. This way you'll know as soon as something
changes anywhere on your horse. The hoof is the window to the soul, it seems
on a horse anyway. This will help alot no matter what hoof boot your using.
What it comes down to is how your horse is most comfortable.

"No hoof, No horse"
