Re: [RC] Mares - Dot WigginsI've had mares, geldings, and studs, ridden all in endurance, games, shows, and ranch work. I find it is all in the personality and training of each how they react to the world around them.I had one mare, out of many, that often had a problem with heat cycles. I found Regumate used before/during an "event" if it was close to cycle time, worked wonders. The rest of the time we just let her, and us, deal with it. Mares usually learn to tend to business in hand or under saddle, just as studs must if they are going to be useful horses. Geldings usually, not always, can be exempt from these little foibles. I found the old adage "You tell a gelding, ask a mare, and discuss it with a stud" worked well with most horses most of the time.
