Re: [RC] RE:Australian Log books and 30 minutes to pulse proposal - Elizabeth WalkerI think this is just the first layer of this onion, however. Another question to ask is what the average speed of each ride, and average conditions. One thing that Jay's posts on the Aussie system brought out is that the Aussie riders have less time to complete than what AERC allows. If the average speed of the rides is faster, that will also play into the equation, I think. Part of the justification for this proposed change was that FEI and Australia have been using this criteria for years now. However, when we questioned whether this had any effect on equine fatalities, nobody seemed to have a clue. So...What is the number of endurance related equine fatalities in Australia over the past 10 years? How many starts over the past 10 years? What are the number of FEI endurance related fatalities and starts over the past 10 years?. Once we can get these ratios and then look at them next to our numbers we will have a better sense of the data pro or con for this proposed change. We assume that somebody in Australia with their incredibly detailed logbook system and computerized records should be able to come up with these numbers. We should also assume that FEI with their detailed management should also be able to furnish this data. Paul N.
