I used to call them ponies around endurance riders so as not to offend anyone 
and horses around other Icelandic owners so as not to offend anyone.  Now I 
like to call them horses around endurance riders and ponies around other 
Icelandic owners.  As I have posted on the Icelandic lists, the question is 
largely irrelevant anyway.  If you have an animal that put as much of his 
heart into it as Skjoldur did last year, you should call him "Mister" or 
"Sir" no matter how big he is.
