RE: [RC] Motions before the Board of Directors at the Convention

Bob - my comments on your comments:

>>>>
In most all instances the statement "Implementation of this
policy will have no cost to AERC and shall be effective
immediately." is not true.

Motion <<< No later than three weeks after a meeting of the
BOD, the Executive Director shall summarize all action items
or motions which were proposed AND APPROVED BY THE BOD and
shall provide this summary to the BOD >>>> will definately
have an effect on the time and finances of the office
personnel. There will be the time of assembling the
information and the cost of printing and mailing to be
countered with. These costs are not currently provided for.
>>>>

The executive director is on salary. all of the BOD have email, no need to
print and mail.

>>The Motion: <<<<Any additions to AERC rules, regulations or
policies (including awards and event qualification
criteria), or any changes to such existing rules and
policies, which are approved by the BOD, shall not take
effect until the ride season or qualifying period AFTER the
addition or change has been printed in the Endurance News.

Implementation of this policy will have no cost to AERC and
shall be effective immediately.>>>>

I find this rather incongrous. The motion is made in the
first paragraph to do a particular action that precludes
doing what the final sentence in the motion states.
>>>

It is rather incongrous. My intent was to say "starting now".

>>The Motion: <<<<Abolish all qualifications imposed by the
AERC on the National Championship ride this year.>>>>

To me this mends the 2002 is wide open and available for
competition to all members of the AERC no matter what their
ride record. If you have paid your dues to the AERC you are
entitled to ride in the 2002 NC 100 mile ride.
>>>

This motion came from an individual. Personally I think it is John's way of
throwing up his hands, and a poorly composed motion. We'll see what the BOD
does with it.

>>
I think it is time to STOP AND THINK!!!! Does no one read
what they write? This is why I bitch and scream about the
BoD actions being done in the dark. Placing these before the
membership three days before the vote is unpardonable. This
agenda should have been published in January for the benefit
of the membership and so the Directors could receive input
from their regional members.

Further, to have an annual meeting scheduled and these the
only items on the agenda at this point tells me something is
drastically wrong. Are there no items from the committees or
have the Committee Chairs found that it is easier to ram
things through when no one has had time to examine the
content?

When is the BoD going to start acting like a BoD?
>>

The BOD is too big, too diverse, as many opinions (or lack of) as there are
preferences in lycra. This is the way it is. There are a few individuals who
really care, and are trying to do things right, but the BOD can only be as
good as it's members. Very few people want to be directors, and they are
seated based on election results, not qualifications.

I suppose we'll just keep muddling through....

Steph
