National qualifications

Maryben wrote that most of the posters on Ridecamp want the national
qualifications to stay the same.
So, if posting on Ridecamp has the effect of influencing the board of
directors I guess many more of us should stop lurking and give our
opinions too.
I for one think changing National qualifications to the new proposed 500
mile (and all the rest of the plan) is necessary to promote excellence and
dedication to the sport of endurance.
The first question a reporter is going to ask anyone claiming the title
of national champion is "What did you do to earn the title?" The second
question is, "Who did you beat?"
How we answer those questions has a lot to do with gaining acceptance and
legitimacy as a viable sport.
Yes, I am an AERC member (13753) with 705 miles on two horses. Not even
close to high mileage yet, and no where near championship caliber.
