[RC] Lessons learned from Fall - Jennifer Judkins

Steve, your son is a very gifted writer and seems to also have a good grasp of the horsemanship skills required to manage a horse like Blossom. You should be very proud. I couldn't help but giggle alittle when reading his narrative. I bought a 4 year old while learning to ride (still have him) and bore the bruises for a long time. Experienced people tried to dissuade me, but I could not pass Manny up. He is much like your Blossom- smart, athletic, young and full of play. I can't tell you how many times he dumped me in our early months together, seemed like a weekly event;-) But what I can tell you and I hope your son is this: I have never loved a creature more than this horse. We have a bond stronger than family. It is because I really had to dig deep to find a way to communicate with him, to win his trust and earn his respect. He has made me a better person, both in the way I deal with other horses and with other people. He has taught me that all creatures have a perspective, ie things are not always how I see them. So don't gi ve up! Maybe ground word is the way to go for awhile. Blossom can learn alot and Peter can build back some confidence. I can't even remember what the turning point was for Manny and me, it just sort of happened-one day there was trust. It took awhile, but it was worth it. Just remember, we hardly ever value the easy things in life. Great essay! Happy New Year! Jennifer.
