[RC] The LBL Express - Hickory Ridge Arabians

    HAPPY HOLIDAYS EVERYONE,

For the past two years I have been looking at different ride
site possibilities around Indiana and Kentucky. The area called,
"The Land Between the Lakes", was the final site winner.
This ride is in the SOUTHEAST region.
The ride is called "THE LBL EXPRESS" and the ride date is
    April 26, 2003.

In the early 90's Nina & John Warren held rides at LBL. LBL was
also the site for the Race of Champions.
Back then the area was managed by the TVA. Today the area is managed
by the National Forest Service. The site has grown in amenities and
    popularity over the years.

LBL(Land between the Lakes) is located at Golden Pond with easy
    access from Interstate 24.

    We will offer a 25 miles(Limited Distance Ride) and 50 mile(Endurance
Ride).(Yes, Angie we are looking at doing a 100 mile ride sometime
in the future). This ride will always be the last weekend of
April. It works out best for the forest service and the campground.
It is sanctioned by AERC and SERA(Southeastern Endurance Riders
    Association).
Starting time for the 50 mile ride will be 7 a.m.(CST) 25 mile ride
will leave at 7:30 a.m. (CST)

Dr. Duane Barnett is our HEAD VET, and will be assisted by Dr.Otis
Schmitt and Dr. Art King. All vet checks will be in CAMP.

Ms.Nancy Gooch is the head timer and will be assisted by her sister
    Jackie Mitchell.

Jackie Mitchell will also assist with the layout of the trials. Jackie
has been the trail master in past years.

A catered meal will be provided before the awards banquet on
Saturday night. A vegetarian menu will be available.
Information will be on the ride entry.

The rider's meeting and banquet will be in a covered pavilion.
We will have very nice awards, top ten, BC's, etc... plus some very
    nice surprises for the riders.

The Forest Service is providing us with a storyteller for
entertainment just before the the ride meeting on Friday night.

The trail has very good footing, and is marked with permanent
numbers by the Forest Service. All trails are marked with numbers.
For example, trail 8 is an 18 mile loop and is named,"Frank
    James".
The 12.8 mile loop is named,"Jesse James" and so on. There is 100
miles of trail marked by the Forest Service. Some of the trails
are wide enough for wagons. The trails are very well marked.
Additional ribbons and pie plates will be up for turns. Some rolling
hills, no steep climbs, some rocks, and maybe a little mud depending
on the amount of rain we have in April.

The campground has the following amenities for the riders. Restaurant,
    showers($2.00 for non-camper), stalls($6.00 a night), wash stalls for
    the horses. Washer/dryers, soft-drink machines, pay-phones,playground
for the kids, a riding stable were you can rent horses to do a trail
    ride.
Ice, Firewood, and Hay for sale at the campground.

High lines are available at the sites with electricity.
There are 176 electrical hook-up sites which are provided on a first
come, first serve basis. They do not take reservations. We will have
two fields for overflow parking which is primitive camping.

There will a basic camping fee of $12.00 a night.
    Electrical: $16.00 a night(includes base fee of $12)
    Electrical/Water $18.00 a night
    Electrical/Water/Sewer $20.00 a night

Teddy Lancaster from Running Bear Farms will be at the ride to
provide you with those emergency items.

We will have a farrier at the site who is experienced with shoeing
    endurance horses.

Peter Demott- Equestrian Sport Photography will be our photographer.

Ham radio operators will be stationed at critical points on the trail
to keep track of the riders on the trail. The Forest Service will
provide security for the early morning road crossings.

ALL out of state horses MUST have proof of a current negative
coggins test, a current health certificate.

In addition to excellent trails, and wonderful ride site amentites,
you can take some additional time to view buffalo, elk and other
wild life near and around the lakes. The Inn at Lake Barkley
has a fabulous restaurant and also provides excellent accomodations
for those who prefer not to "ruff it".

We are not setting a limit to the amount of riders, but we would like
to have an idea if you are coming, it will help with the planning.

    Thank you so much,

I am putting together a mailing list for the ride entry forms.
