[RC] OD third class citizen - Louise Bower

I did the OD 25 in 2001 and had a wonderful experience.  It was a first time ride for my new young mare.  There were over 100 starters between the 100, 50 and 25.  It was a great atmosphere for her to camp and ride in, where else would she get exposed to so much in 1 weekend?  Before I hear about throwing her too much too fast, I had camped at the OD the year before with her, but didn't ride, was a volunteer.  She also had been camping several other places with friends.  I rode the 25 with an experienced friend and her 1000 mile horse.  We left about 5 minutes after the other 25 mile riders.  Within the first mile you start to climb up and over Skyline Drive, great way to take the edge off a young horse.  Anyway we finished the ride, pulsed down as we walked to the ring to the vet check where they also did the pulse.  We were unable to wait for the awards ceremony and went home.  Much to my surprise my completion was mailed to me, I did not expect that.  We went on to do 2 other LD rides that year and a 30 CTR before doing her first 50 in Sept.  The OD was a great first experience for my new mare.    Louise
