I'm a bit behind on my mail. Just got my computer back from repairs.

I have a 20 yo Morgan, Son Beam Sirprize, aka Sonny. I retired him last year, due to foundering. I was spending too much time with my younger boy, Triton Wichita, aka Ta. Sonny has 2230 endurance & 305 LD miles. Our last ride was Lassen Challenge 50 in 1999. Ride's by Mt Lassen in northern California. We finished third in 3:56. We flew down the trail. It was just awesome, sooo much fun. Sonny is old style breeding.

Ta, on the other hand, is of the 'newer' style breeding - leaner and with quite a trot. Wish I'd owned him 10-15 years ago, I'm slowing him down. <vbg> He's a tad on the 'hot' side.

One breed that may be very overlooked as endurance prospects are Morgans. I have two Morgans. They both have big thick bone, great feet, short strong cannons. One is too muscular for endurance but the other is perfect. Long lean muscle, tons of stamina and an extended trot that is awesome. I wish I would have known about this breed years ago.
