[RC] Riding in the Dark - Maureen A. Fager
I have ridden the dark for the last two years and have never used a light.
There is lots of ambient light from cities and roads where I train. I'm
only on roads for less than a mile and they are very quiet neigborhood type
roads.
I have finished several rides in darkness, done one "night owl" ride and one
100 mile ride, all with out a head light or even a glow stick. (The 100
mile ride was under a full moon and clear night, and I did have glow sticks
with me, but didn't need them :-)
The point here is lights are optional. Of course, if one is riding on
public roads with traffic, lights and reflectors are a saftey issue, but I
have found lights are not always needed on the trail, whether training or at
rides.
That's what works for me.
Happy Trails,
Maureen
