    [RC] food - Maggie Mieske

    Sue,
Read Susan's articles on her website about "avoiding the metabolic pull".
You will learn that to hydrate the horse for the ride, you need to start at least two days before the ride.  What is fed on Thursday is what will be in the hindgut on Saturday.  I usually start on Tuesday or Wednesday just tanking them up on lots of hay and soaked beet pulp.  I use shredded beet pulp and when I "soak" I just add the water and feed it.  I don't let it soak for hours like some people do.  Never had a problem doing it that way either.  In the winter, I add HOT water and they LOVE it.  Hope this helps.
    Maggie
