[RC] Black Beauty - Betsy O'Shea

The star on Black Beauty's face is not painted on it, is a horsey toupe. No
kidding !. the horse is a QH named "Doc's Keepin Time" and he is called
Justin. He was purchased to be trained and used in the Black Stallion
movies. but he didn't get the part. I think that went to an Arab named
"Cass Ole" who was an outstanding equitation horse. Anyway, Justin did get
the Black Beauty part, but as he is all black, and had no star, one had to
be made. Painting looked fake so they had a toupe made. I was able to
really examine the toupe up close and could not tell the difference between
the horse's real hair and the fake hair. No seams, no glue , no thread. the
hair texture was the same. "Black Beauty" made a personal appearance at the
American Royal Horse Show several years ago, and I went to watch very early
in the morning, and the wife of the owner and trainer Rex Peterson was
taking her shift watching the horse. No entourage, no visitors, so I had a
very interesting chat with her about the horse and horses in the movies.
they also owned and trained "Ginger" ,and "Maryleggs" was leased and trained
by them too. what I particularly noticed about "Black Beauty" was the
tremendous development of the muscles around the upper part of the radius
and ulna (by the elbow). It was almost like a body builder at that point.I
wonder if that is because of the strength it must take to do the rearing and
    other tricks the horse does.
