Re: [RC] Leg confirmation in High Mileage horses - Heidi Smith

I don't know of any of them that are "really bad" although some of them are less than perfect.  But I don't know a one of them that has poor back conformation or is unbalanced.  Good legs are important, but a poor back can destroy a perfect set of legs.  After 30 years of watching endurance horses from the perspective of both a ride vet and a breeder, I no longer look at legs first--if a horse does not have a good back and body, I don't look any further.

Subject: [RC] Leg confirmation in High Mileage horses

Has anyone in ridecamp looked at the legs of many of the high mileage horses and noted the confirmation.

We all know how important is is to have really straight legs. But I have heard that some great horses have had crooked legs. Secretariate was said to be knock kneed, and although he was a thouroughbred I am wondering how the really high mileage horses stand in the leg department.
