Re: [RC] [RC-Digest] Vol: 02.0842 - Vicki Austin

I have an endurance sport saddle and like Alice I
would not part with it. I use mine for all my rides
and training rides from 25 miles to 100 milers. Have
never had a problem with it, I get the sport saddle
wool back pads and they cover a lot more than the
barrol pads do. I got my sport saddle basicall
against my better judgement. I had never ridden in
one until I was conditioning horses for a friend who
was laid up and she insisted I ride in her saddle
instead of my dressage saddle. I hated them at
first. Legs to far foward, seat big and squishy
(didn't realize at the time that you could get the
stirrups put where you want or that you could get a
small size seat. (I use a youth size)

When I bought my present horse the owner said "You
know you will have to buy a SS to go along with him"
I tried six differant saddles over two years before I
gave into the SS. They all made boo boos somewhere
on his back. I finnally got one of those homely
western like saddles when my last trial saddle made a
boo boo in just one small training ride. They had my
size in stock and I got it in three days. I did't
ride my horse until it came and then took him our and
started riding him "with the boo boo stil there "
and I kid you not that boo boo healed up within a
couple of weeks while I contunued to ride him. Since
you have ten days to really try the SS out I took
advantage of it and rode A LOT. I was sold!!! Now
the only place I use my dressage saddle is in the ring
and at shows. The SS goes everywhere else. I even
took it to a jumping clinic one time and was perfectly
comfortable in it. Of course we only jump about 3 ft
but still you have to be in position. (thank God for
    cruppers and brest plates)
