Re: [RC] [RC] Hunting Season - Nancy Mitts

Last year while hanging ribbons for the Turkey Trot I came across a couple guys with bikes in their roof rack pitching a tent right next to a trailhead in a meadow. They had as much right to camp there as we had to ride there. I didn't ask or even suggest that they move. I explained what event was planned in the area for the next 2 days. They packed up and left. It was the prudent and wise thing to do, no matter what their "rights" were. By the same token, I avoid riding the trails they have marked when they have their bike races.
Yes, officially I can ride during the eleven days of deer gun season. I choose not to because it is the prudent and wise thing to do. It beats being dead right.

That aside, and I know this is really a radical suggestion here, but I thought the original discussion was about not being able to ride in the woods and forest during hunting season for fear of getting shot. Haven't we gotten way, way off topic? Doesn't anyone think that it's possible - just theoretically talking here, let's not all get upset because I might be trying to change any minds - but doesn't anyone think that it's possible that it *should* be OK to ride in the woods and forests even during hunting season? Am I really the only RideCamper who thinks that people with guns should be *gasp* more careful than perhaps some of them are? And that maybe refraining from riding in the woods or forest, which of course is prudent the way things are these days in order to continue being able to send emails to RideCamp, might not ultimately be the *only* solution, that maybe the people who are - dare I say it - actually causing the problem (the ones who sometimes pull the triggers and shoot riders and horses) might be somehow the ones to look at change their actions rather than the victims?
