RE: [RC] [RC] Quality of Life (legislating and regulating) - Linda Cowles

"Right on Steve! You got it! The name of the game is put the family
farmer out of business as usual! They can't take on Sea World, so the hit
the little guy! Unfortunately the REASON mother sows are tied or
otherwise restrained is the high risk of half OR whole litters being
SMOTHERED by mother pig. How many farmers can stay in business if their
sows kill half the litter each breeding?
Can we have a reality check here?"

I don't think this legislation is trying to get little farmers or deal with
sow restrains early in nursing. Look at the pictures in those articles and
check out the size of the operations that they're focusing on.

These pens aren't just for sows with litters, they are used for all pigs
from the time the litters are broken up until the animal goes to slaughter.
The pens are VERY small, just inches larger than a standing pig.

I won't eat meat raised that way... it can't be healthy for us either. I'd
rather pay two or three times as much for field raised meat, and eat less of
    it.
