RE: [RC] Youth - Linda Cowles

    >Ginger Said: " So, maybe children riding endurance isn't about competing
    .."

I said that, Ginger quoted me!

    >Darolyn Said: "She was riding alone by 3, & entered her first 15 mi.
    competition at 4, a
    50 at 5 & won several that year, "

    > Angie Said: "And then again, maybe it is. >eg< I can't say I've won a lot
    of races...

Yep! We're all individuals; some compete, some ponder their navels, some do
both. The point is that fun is a major component of kids (all ages) riding
    endurance.

As I posted to a sub-set, we all need to think about it from different
    perspectives, question our assumptions.

But a dose of reality? If your concerns are THIS sincere, please spend your
energy to do something for the many kids who REALLY need you. Our endurance
kids are VERY lucky kids, loved and cared for. If you are seriously worried
about child welfare, fight a battle that begs for champions. Which battle?
    Pick one...

    - Children under the age of 12 still carry guns into battle in Africa.
    - I get kiddy-porn-spam email almost every week; it's probably just bait,
    but disgusting.
    - sub-teens of both sexes are pushed into prostitution in many 3rd world
    countries.
    - Our inner cities are full of kids who need someone to worry about their
    safety.

    .... ad nausium...

If you want to worry about other peoples kids, bring the worry home with
you, be a hero. The demand for foster and respite homes is phenomenal. You
can actually make $800-1200 a month for taking in a foster kid! A good deed
you get paid to do. Imagine that.

All over the world, kids are being beaten, tortured, abandoned, neglected
and molested. Kids aren't disposable, and the kids in endurance don't need
your help as much as many other kids do. Let's save those kids, not happy,
healthy well adjusted kids like Cliffy.

Talk is cheap. I just spent my nickels worth.
