    I'd be dead set against Junior following Mom on the trail, and I'd be concerned about Junior getting into trouble back at camp, being in a strange place without Mom for moral support.

    As for Mom, I'd be concerned about her calcium metabolism getting mucked up, if she were lactating.

    If you really want to compete this mare, I'd negotiate something with the "breed every year" issue. Might be worth it to show what a good horse Mom is.
