    Whazzupwitdat is that the younger the child, the less capable he/she is of
    making his own choices, and the more responsibilities others (parents,  and
    AERC regardless of whether or not they have an age-limit rule) have for the
    child.
    
    Of course any child or any adult getting seriously hurt is a tragedy.  I am
    sure that the 5 yo who completed that 100 is a better rider than some adults
    we have out there.  BUT they are adults and can make there own decisions, a
    5 yo isn't capable of truly understanding the risks and the long-term
    implications of serious injury.  An 8 yo is more capable, a 12 yo even more
    so.
