I myself have a horse who is seven years old and just about six monthes ago, had I started noticed that he was yawning after rides. He would yawn like ten times after wards, not during or before but afterwards. no other horse at my barn yawns and its only him. But in your case I think he learned it from the other horses. I also think it might relax him, yawning. When my horse does it he seems to relax and start to chew after he does it. Well I hope that helps. Anyone else who is reading this if you think it is something in the evironment or feed or whatever, please tell me. THanks and Kelly I hope it helps.
