    I ride with a body protector in the summer and although it is hot, it is not
    unbearable. It all depends on how high risk you are.  I don't think I have
    many other options as I am in my 60's, have osteoporosis, have had several
    broken ribs when I have fallen off recently,  my horse is not particularly
    quiet, I ride a lot and travel at a pretty good clip.
