    Oh, I think they'd think 100 miles is fun enough...  My worry would be more along the line that they might be able to figure out any possible combo for attaching them to the trailer or confining them in panels, or figure out how to open the tack door to where the feed is stored, or have their own opinions about the best way to do everything, etc., etc., etc.  My Arabs figure out the darnedest things, and mules have such a reputation for that, too, that it might be the rare person who is smarter than the equine to train one....  :-)
