    I think the entire barefoot issue should be left up to the horse owner, as
    long as you are looking out for your horses welfare and NOT what is most
    convenient for you then do your own thing.  I ride my gelding barefoot BUT
    it is because he can handle it. He is 5 and has had 1 set of shoes on, that
    was 2 years ago at the trainer. I can ride him in the arena, on trails
    (rocky and smooth), roads, you name it we ride it. I love barefoot but the
    day I change horses and my new horse needs more protection you can be sure
    those shoes will be going on.
