RE: [RC] Director at Large - Alison Farrin

But I never would have found endurance riding if it wasn't for AERC.
Our rides are rarely listed in local horse magazines and you had to know
someone who rode in the ride to get to the ride manager to get an
application. Now, I send new riders to the AERC website for everything
they ever wanted to know about ER. You are paying with your dues for
all the oversight - rules, regs, vet committee, etc etc. Honest, if
AERC went away, you would miss it. There is added value in that it
brings cohesion to the sport. If you are not a member, you pay a day
fee for the support structure. I can't think of a place where that
isn't true. Golf - an outsider pays more than a member to play the
course; all horse shows; car shows - club members pay less.

But the AERC doesn't even "own" the rides! Rides are put on by ride
managers, private individuals and clubs. The AERC only sanctions them
and keeps the records (and has awards programs FOR MEMBERS ONLY).
Yet, the AERC forces the ride managers to impose this fee on
non-members. Actually, I find your calling the AERC "allowing"
non-AERC-members to participate in a local club's ride a "privilege"
    to be a bit insulting.

No, I don't care what other organizations do (If other organizations
jumped off a bridge ...). I care what the AERC does.
