Re: [RC] Another "bone" question - Vicki Austin

Jennifer, I got my horse at the age of seven. He was 14 2 and looked like
he was mature for sure. His front legs were 7 1/2" hind legs 81/2". He had
been riden but not regularly until I was hired to condition him. I worked
with him for six months and then bought him. I liked his mind. The
first year I had him he grew to 15 hands and gained 1/2" on all legs. The
second year he muscled up and his feet grew to a size one. I think he is
done growning now but people who have known him and seen him at rides say he
was a "late bloomer" but I am convinced that Arabs are not fully mature
until 8 or 9 so you want to be careful how much you expect of them until
    then.

I had another young arab that came to me when he was 3 and he put on 400
pounds, grew 4" taller and his legs got much bigger (never measured his
legs)by the time he was six. He died of an anerism before I had a chance
to test his endurance as I don't like to do to much until they are 8or 9.

Your new horse is likely to grow much more than you think, and you never
know just what they will be until they are done growing.

    Hope this helps. Vicki
