RE: [RC] The Way We Win - Steph Teeter

The biggest problem I see with Mathew's gold/silver/bronze proposal is that
it is just about impossible to effectively rate a ride based on time to
complete. Too many variables - weather, trail conditions, who is riding,
etc. His proposal would make more sense to me if it was based on a
percentage of finishers. e.g. Gold is the top 10%, Silver 20%, Bronze 30%...

Conceptually, I think it's good that he is looking at our sport, and
considering options and alternatives. Endurance is only 30 yrs old as an
organized sport in the US (AERC) and a fair number of changes have already
been made along the way - from 100's to 50's to LD. Not to mention vetting
criteria. We should not be afraid to consider alternatives. Mostly we need
to figure out how to better protect the horses. I've always been of the
mindset that I'll take care of my own horse and expect others to do the
same. But from the perspective of 'the sport' maybe I have a greater
    responsibility...?
