Re: [RC] Matthew Mackay-Smith concept presented to the AERC BoD - Linda Flemmer
Mike,
It was tried at the 2002 OD. I can't say that I was
impressed by the system as it currently stands. I
don't think the majority of the riders were thrilled
with it either. MMK's system was presented at the
awards banquet along with the standard placings and
completions.
The 100 was superbly ridden in quite a fast time this
year. Horses were in good to great shape at the end.
Still, not a single 100 mile rider finished at MMK's
"Gold Level". He was tweaking the awards based on
curent ambient conditions (which were very favorable
this year), history of ride difficulty, & ride time.
The OD has a long history to look at and this system
was not too successful. Imagine the difficulties of a
younger ride with less history or someone less versed
than MMK trying to make these determinations?
JUST DIDN'T WORK, in my eyes. Sorry to those looking
for a better system. I'm not sure that this one is
the answer as it stood at the 2002 OD.
